Network Video Recorder namely NVR,is an internet protocol based device that sits on your network and is a centralized, networked recorder solution that connects multiple IP cameras simultaneously.  It can records video in a digital format to a disk drive,SD memory card or other storage devices. Because they are IP based, NVR can be managed remotely via your LAN or over the Internet giving you greater flexibility.



The basic function of an NVR is the simultaneous recording and remote access of live video streams from your IP camera. With the IP-connected devices, the IP cameras can be aggregated. NVR are similar to DVR but with several distinct differences. NVR allow you to view, control, and record video from all your cameras via one centralized interface. The interface is Web connected, so you can view, manipulate and manage the video from any IP connected device, including desktops, wireless PDAs, cell phones and so on. In addition, the main distinction being that video on a DVR is encoded and processed at the DVR, while video on an NVR is encoded and processed at the camera, and streamed to the NVR for storage or remote viewing. An NVR contains no dedicated video capture hardware.
