There is no doubt that home security is important to anyone who has a home or an apartment. Almost every house in America has a lot of windows to look out of for a scenic view sine outside view can make our horizon abroad. However, all those windows can make you a target for thieves. All thieves have to do is break your windows and they can get in and rob you.

But there are ways to protect yourself as well as your family members. The actual construction of windows has come a long way. You can increase your security by adding locks. There are a multitude of types of glass that you can choose, make sure you select heavy glass.

The humble window, the object that lets light into our lives and burglars into our homes. Yes that see-through little square in our solid brick walls is the main entry point for any would be thief, who wishes to relieve us of our valuables. There are many other entry places for a burglar, but the window is the weakest point of entry and the burglar’s favorite. There are hundreds of different window locks and door window alarm on the market, some claim to be burglar proof, so how does a thief get past your window locks and steal all your belongings.

If you are able to select a door make sure you do not pick one with large windows. Thieves can bust out the windows and then come into your home.

The locks you choose are very important. They should be very durable and difficult to open. Look for a lock that will keep the frames of the windows together as this will provide more reinforcement. If you must open your windows, keep them part way open. Try not to open them up completely as this makes it very easy for burglars to come into your home. If you are leaving, make sure all of the windows are closed and locked.

Many of the window locks on the market now are quite good deterrents, and either use a rack bolt to secure the window or a small key operated push lock. One of these on a window may not be good enough, as again, with a little bit of leverage, they will just come out of the woodwork as these locks do not have long screws, the best thing to do is put one of each type on a window, and use larger screws if possible. Test the window, close the window and lock it up, go outside and press against the window frame, if there is movement in the window frame, put another window lock on where the movement is, it may be a bit of a pain to open the window when you want it open, but at least it may stop somebody else from opening it. And you do only put one lock on, the damage that will be caused just to the window and frame will cost you a bit to get fixed.

If you have an alarm system that uses a motion detector, place this near a window. This will alert you if someone is trying to break into your home. Make sure you do not keep ladders outside around your house. Burglars can use the ladder to climb up and through your windows on the second level. Always check to make sure that all of your windows, including those on the second floor are locked.

Take the time to study the layout of your home and take every precaution to make sure that your home cannot be easily burglarized. Take the time to put up curtains and blinds so that burglars cannot see inside and look at your valuables or the layout of your house. Make sure you keep personal information such as credit cards and bank information locked in a file cabinet. The less information you have available to potential burglars, the safer your home will be.
